Arts & Entertainment LGBT Woman's Interest ALL TRUE TOMBOYS
(Leslie/Lohman Gallery -Basement Annex -, 127-B Prince Street, New York, NY, 10013)(Noon - 6pm)
“The tomboy is the lesbian’s inner core, her secret weapon; "Tomboys” explores tomboys big and small in mixed media oil paintings combining flannel shirts, t-shirts, photo transfers, marbles, jacks, dildos and other fun stuff.” Opening reception 6-8pm I started at Cal Arts in the Feminist Studio Workshop and left to paint murals for the City of Los Angeles with street gangs. Feminism and activism have guided me ever since. I cofounded the public art organization, SPARC, in Venice California, and have received public art commissions in California, New York and New Hampshire. I have exhibited my paintings in galleries in Los Angeles, New York, Provincetown and East Hampton and received grants from the Pollock-Krasner and Gottleib Foundations. I painted the Tomboy paintings in the early '90's when I was searching to recapture a certain vital essence of spirit which I felt I wanted to embody in both my life and my art. (2124312609)(FREE)
