We survived the political storm & we left our homes & we voted in a primary for the first time in 40 years! It's been 40 years since NY's vote actually counted for a primary. How many of you voted for the first time? How many of you voted in the last NY primary prior to 2016?
By the way, did you know that we had some "hate mail" because of last week's newsletter? Someone had the "balls" to tell us that they felt we were trying to "sway" your vote and that they "
BELIEVE IN THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN." (Yes their entire email was in ALL CAPS!)
We responded:
"Our email is not trying to "sway" people into voting Democrat. Our email clearly mentions that we were describing a "super quick rundown on Marriage Equality." In addition, we ONLY wrote what each candidate has said on record. If the candidates' own words alienate voters then it is each candidates' responsibility to own it and face the consequences in the matter of votes gained or lost." ...... and then we explained OUR views on Marriage Equality and how WE all deserve the right to marry, etc, etc, etc.....
We are already seeing lots of flowers blooming, and lots of events going on, so we encourage you to post your events on our website. Which do you prefer - rain or the storm of politics that the Presidential Candidates brought to our city? Remember we have to vote on the NY Primary on Tuesday, April 19. Here's a super quick rundown on Marriage Equality:

Democrats:

If you are following politics - what on earth is going on there!?!?! OMG craziness, this past Super Tuesday was

NYC and the rest of the world are dressing in GOLD this weekend as everyone seems to be in OSCARS mood! Although there are plenty of controversies about the Oscars excluding minority nominees, there are plenty of places around our city that are hosting viewing parties - and are actually betting that they will be the big winners in attendance.
Is anyone following the political environment? Oh boy! What do you think should we get political in upcoming issues? Let us know your thoughts.
Don't forget we constantly update our Calendar of Events & always add new "What To Do In NYC" and contests (scroll to the bottom & click on pic to enter).

SPEAKEASY - John and Jane's Adventures in the Wonderland
February 18 - Until March 13, 2016
Wednesdays - Saturdays 8PM
Saturdays 2PM & Sundays 3PM
Theater for the New City
155 1st Ave. NY
Picture it - It's 1929 in New York City. John and Jane Allison are newlyweds. But Jane kisses her neighbor Roberta and goes "down the rabbit hole," while John accepts a sexual proposition in a public men's room sliding "through the looking glass," and in one fantastical magical realist dream night, they explore their sexuality through the course of two simultaneous and intertwining magical adventures. OMG!!!!
Lewis Carroll's literary characters and events from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" are transformed into real-life historically- significant entertainers and events from NYC's Prohibition-era queer culture, with whom Jane and John enjoy friendships and love affairs. After a night of speakeasies, buffet flat parties, police raids, drag balls, and a bizarre trial, will they reveal their "dreams" to each other and "speak easy" about their truths?

During the installation, which includes the book, life-size photographs, a film, and interactive website, attendees are encouraged to reconfigure the physical book, play on the website, and communicate online using the Transfigure Website Community Forum Page to engage with people outside the walls of the gallery.

John and Jane Allison are newlyweds.Although they love each other, they have desires they haven't even acknowledged to themselves, let alone explored. But after giving her neighbor Roberta White a kiss, Jane goes "down the rabbit hole," entering the strange world of a Speakeasy, where time and space and identity don't appear to follow conventional rules. On accepting a sexual proposition in a public men's room, John mysteriously slides "through the looking glass," and in one fantastical magical realist dream night, they explore their sexuality through the course of two simultaneous and intertwining magical adventures.
