The Giant Earth Images
(Grand Central Station, 101 East 42nd, New York, NY 10017) (10 am - 8 pm) The week-long show will illuminate the historic landmark’s soaring main concourse with inspiring environmentally themed quotes, messages, photographs and graphic images contributed by artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Rafal Olbinski, among others. The show, projected onto two of the north columns in the concourse, will run 10 hours a day. (FREE) Event Website

"Queer Pioneers: The Early Lesbian Fiction of Patricia Highsmith, Ann Bannon and Marijane Meake

Guests include Ann Bannon (leading her session), and Cece Martin, former manager of Oscar Wilde Bookshop. Taught by Kurt Brokaw, pulp historian, longtime friend of Ann & Marijane, and Assoc. Teaching Professor at The New School. Sessions explore Ann's 6 novels known as "The Beebo Brinker Chronicles" including "Odd Girl Out" and the title novel; Marijane's equally pioneering work as Ann Aldrich, Vin Packer, M.E. 2nd Annual LGBT IMMIGRATION FAIR
(LGBT Community Center, 208 West 13th St, New York, NY 10011) (7:30pm) This event is targeted to all LGBT immigrants, regardless of immigration status. You will be able to meet lawyers, health service providers and other LGBT-centric organizations. Please pass this information on to anyone who may benefit from attending. Last year, 40 organizations and 500 attendees came to our successful event.

Left Out Festival 2010
(Stage Left Studio, 438 W 37th Street 5A, New York, NY 10018) (See website for performance schedule) This annual event is a two-week festival presenting solo shows, small cast plays and evenings of monologues, all to benefit Bailey House and GMHC. This year's festival features new works by some of the powerhouses of previous authors and performers in the festival such as Anthony Johnston, whose show Art's Heart was voted Best Solo Show in the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival, and Frank Blocker, who presented his solo show Southern Gothic Novel in the first Left Out Festival. Tim Burton Retrospective
(MoMA, 11 West 53 St, New York, NY 10019) This major career retrospective on Tim Burton, consisting of a gallery exhibition and a film series, considers Burton's career as a director, producer, writer, and concept artist for live-action and animated films, along with his work as a fiction writer, photographer and illustrator. Following the current of his visual imagination from early childhood drawings through his mature work, the exhibition presents artwork generated during the conception and production of his films, and highlights a number of unrealized projects and never-before-seen pieces, as well as student art, his earliest non-professional films, and examples of his work as a storyteller and graphic artist for non-film projects. The Spring and Fall of Eve Adams
(Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave, New York, NY 10003) (Th-Sa 8pm, Su 3pm) The true story of an extraordinary woman who was a victim of homophobia and anti-immigrant hysteria that ultimately led to her death. In 1926 Eve Adams, a Jewish lesbian from Poland, was proprietor of “Eve’s Hangout”, a tearoom where local poets, musicians and actors congregated and shared their work. This haven of artistic and sexual freedom was soon threatened by religious and governmental authorities, leading to her arrest, imprisonment and deportation. The conflict between progressive and reactionary forces provides the drama in the play as the characters attempt to live and love free from discrimination. ($12) Event Website

2010 Whitney Biennal

While Biennials are always affected by the cultural, political, and social moment, this exhibition, simply titled 2010, embodies a cross section of contemporary art production rather than a specific theme. To demonstrate the influence of the past on 2010, familiar and less well-known artists from previous exhibitions are brought together in Collecting Biennials, an accompanying installation drawn from the Museum’s collection on view on the fifth floor. Road to Freedom: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement, 1956–1968

Picasso: Themes and Variations

Jean Miotte: Spirit of Defiance
(Chelsea Art Museum, 556 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011) (open Tu - Sa 11am to 6pm Th 11am to 8pm closed Su) Miotte’s artistic influences include performance, choreography, jazz music and Ballet, and of these his most seminal influence is Ballet. In London in 1948 he did set design and saw the work of Balanchine, the Diaghilev Ballet and Margot Fonteyn. Being exposed to this variety of art was of profound inspiration to him. Dance is the universal language of non-verbal communication, evident through performance. Miotte would experiment with gesture through painting and hone lyrical movement in his own art. ($8, $4)
