Campbell Soady Gallery presents Jonathan Soloman Bressler Opening Reception
(LGBT Community Center, 208 West 13th St, New York, NY 10011) (6pm) Bressler's pieces are mostly constructed of recycled materials such as paper, aluminum cans, and found objects layered on stretched canvas or wooden panels. These materials are glued or fastened into a particular silhouette of a subject and then a background is added. The entire piece is then subdued with glazes and then carefully rendered in an oil wash to clarify the image. The result gives the viewer a dynamic yet subtle union between classical imagery and illusive patterns bringing these subjects of the ancient world into an entirely modern visual. Exhibit runs September through November, 2008. (Free) Event Website
